The OptiCrimp project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection and researches the automatic optical inspection (AOI) of crimp connections using deep learning evaluation for holistic and intelligent quality monitoring. Over a period of two years, starting on March 1, 2022, the development of OptiCrimp will be carried out by the Chair of Manufacturing Automation and Production Systems (FAPS) in Erlangen and Schäfer Werkzeug und Sondermaschinenbau GmbH in Bad Schönborn.
Current trends and challenges require the development of smart and holistic quality control systems for crimp connections. The goal of the AiF-ZIM funded project is the development of an optical inspection system (AOI) for the on-the-fly quality assessment of crimp connections. The development target is an AOI system that can be flexibly integrated into existing crimping machines and fully automated wire processing machines without compromising the short cycle time. The novelty of the project is defined by the use of deep learning as the core technology for image data processing and evaluation. The company Schäfer Werkzeug- und Maschinenbau GmbH is responsible for the development of the hardware, traceability system and periphery.
We look forward to collaborating with project partner FAPS.
