The DeepCrimpact project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and explores the development of crimp force monitoring using Deep Learning, a special machine learning method in artificial intelligence.
Current trends and challenges in wire and terminal processing require the development of improved process monitoring of crimp connections. The goal of the funded DeepCrimpact project is to develop a method for holistic, intelligent analysis of process curves. The information extracted in this way is to be used for optimized quality assurance and production release.
Together with GKT Grüner Kabeltechnik, DD Kabelkonfektion Dropulic GmbH and the Chair of Manufacturing Automation and Production Systems at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAPS), Schäfer Werkzeug- und Sondermaschinenbau GmbH will research and develop intelligent monitoring for a wide variety of crimping processes from July 1, 2022, over the term of two years.
Using Deep Learning as the core technology for automated processing and evaluation of curve data, the following optimizations are to be achieved:
- more accurate quality assessment
- accelerated production release
- increased sensitivity
We look forward to collaborating with our project partners.
