Host Town event in Schwetzingen

On June 14, 2023, the city Schwetzingen will host the Jamaicans and has planned a diverse, athletic program for the occasion.

After a morning athletic training session in Heidelberg, the athletes and their chaperones will arrive at the Schlossplatz in Schwetzingen for a colorful participatory festival. The organizers are looking forward to welcoming numerous sports enthusiasts who would like to join the Jamaicans in their sporting activities from 2 to 6 p.m. Because sport connects across nations, cultures and age groups and is the best opportunity for lived inclusion. The following activities invite you to try out and participate: a mobile sports field, a handball goal wall, a climbing frame, a giant dartboard, a basketball hoop, a soccer goal wall, mini ping-pong tables and more.

A special highlight for the athletes from Jamaica will certainly be the official torch relay with the Olympic flame of the cities of Schwetzingen and Wiesloch. Starting at 6 p.m., the torch will be carried from the train station along Carl-Theodor-Strasse, which is closed to traffic, along Schlossplatz, into Schlossgarten to Hirschgruppe and back to Schlossplatz.

From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., the event continues on the stage in front of the Palais Hirsch with a varied stage program and exuberant Caribbean atmosphere on the northern Schlossplatz. Live music from Athis HipHop Lounge is planned, as well as interviews and performances by various special guests from the local sports scene and rousing show acts.
