Schäfer Group takes over the business operations of VR-Construct

Effective May 1, 2020, Schäfer GmbH in Gerstungen-Unterellen, which belongs to the Schäfer Group, is expanding its portfolio by taking over the business operations of VR-Construct to include additional products for casting hotmelt adhesive in the low-pressure process.

VR-Construct, based in Leopoldshöhe near Bielefeld, has many years of experience in the development of machines and moulds for plastic injection moulding technology. To protect electrical components from external influences, cable connections or crimp areas are overmoulded using this so-called hotmelt” process. This technology, which is important for cable assembly, ideally complements the product range of Schäfer GmbH Werkzeug- und Sondermaschinenbau in Gerstungen-Unterellen. The experts for injection moulding tools from Thuringia in Germany have already been supporting various “hotmelt” projects for several years and are now gradually taking over the production of this machines. From early 2021, all low-pressure extruder machines will be manufactured at the site in Gerstungen-Unterellen. The previous location in Leopoldshöhe near Bielefeld thus functions as a branch of Schäfer GmbH in Gerstungen-Unterellen and continues to be responsible for the development and programming of the extruder machines.

The entire distribution of “hotmelt” products, including hotmelt adhesives as consumable material, will continue to be handled by Kolb GmbH in Waldenbuch, which is also part of the Schäfer Group.

The Schäfer family, together with the entire Schäfer Group, is pleased about this strategically important acquisition and welcomes the employees of the former VR-Construct.
