Crimp Force Monitoring for Highest Quality Standards

Central quality management

To ensure quality in cable production, Schäfer offers the new CrimpWise crimp force monitoring system. This optional extension can be installed into almost all Schäfer crimping machines or attached via an external module. CrimpWise is fully integrated into the machine control system and can be operated intuitively via networked devices. The setting of parameters and the output of measured values through the browser-based interface open up new possibilities for central quality management.

Functionality of the system

The monitoring of crimp quality during cable production is achieved by comparing the measured force with a reference, for example, to detect missing strands or insulation in the crimp connection. A deviation from the learned reference curve triggers an error message from the machine or, if a bad part cutter is installed, leads to the cutting of the cable. This ensures that defective cables cannot be used in further production.

Retrofit capability for machines

The extension of crimp force monitoring via internal or external CrimpWise module is easy to implement, even on presses from other manufacturers. With proven measurement technology, the sensor can be easily set up and adjusted. This ensures consistently high measurement quality throughout the entire product lifecycle of the crimping machine.

Extended capabilities

The documentation and detailed analysis of the recorded crimp forces are carried out within the intuitive CrimpWise software. This allows for easy configuration of the system and integration into the customer’s network.
